BUILD YOUR OWN BLACK HOLE

(PLEASE BRING A JAR*)

Hey everybody, let’s do astrophysics the hedgewitch way, as Katharina Kepler intended. This might be a spell. Girls own the void and you can too! Suitable for reasonable children and most adults. Part artist talk, part workshop, Build Your Own Black Hole takes place inside Spacetime Gothic, Meghan Thréinfhir’s solo exhibition imagining a world of science drenched in animism, where the universe was never stripped of spirit and matter never became entirely mute.

Moving between bogs and black holes, radios and daemons, computation and cosmology, Spacetime Gothic asks what kinds of technologies might emerge from a cosmos understood as alive, relational, and perhaps a little haunted. What changes when our instruments are not only tools for measuring and extracting from the world, but ways of listening to it? We’ll talk about the ideas behind the exhibition and build tiny black holes to take home. All materials provided. Just bring a jar. *Small jars are ideal, about baby-food size. A few jars will be available if you can’t find one.
